Around £5m could be spent on Arnold town centre revamp

Around £5m could be spent as part of ambitious plans to add to the transformation of Arnold town centre.Gedling Borough Council officials plan to make a bid for the funding from the Government.If successful, it says the money will go to improve town centre transport access and enhance the high street, with the council keen to create a more vibrant town centre.Part of the plans include demolishing sections of Arnold Market. He said the authority planned to make improvements to Arnold Market, which it took over last July.It comes after Nottinghamshire Live reported last month campaigners who wanted to save Arnold Market called on the authority to speed up its redevelopment of the site.The council needs to submit an expression of interest for the funding by March 22 and will then wait to hear if it’s shortlisted before creating a business case in the summer. More details about how the funding will be used will be discussed at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, March 19.The money could be used to create a programme of events, make the town accessible to all with improved access throughout the centre, and bring empty and vacant buildings back into use, all with the aim of increasing the enjoyment of the centre and increase footfall to support local businesses.The council also plans to revamp the Carlton Square shopping centre.
