Backing for large-scale Exeter development
Plans for a 285-strong residential development in Exeter have been backed. The application is earmarked for a site at Hill Barton Farm – to the North of the Met Office – with the proposals being at the outline stage. The illustrative masterplan indicates a series of internal roads leading from the spine to serve individual properties and a mix of dwelling-types including houses and apartments. It has been noted, however, that these details are not definitive in terms of the ultimate layout, which will be subject to further approval via a reserved matters application.Affordable housing and financial contribution towards highways and education provision have been proposed, while jobs in construction-related industries are also lined up.The site has previously benefitted from an outline consent for residential development as part of a wider scheme, with large parts having already been constructed.A report drawn up ahead of Exeter City Council’s planning committee meeting noted that the development “would provide a significant level of housing towards the council’s five-year housing supply, which is to be welcomed”.It added that while some concerns have been identified with the illustrative layout, there is “no reason why these cannot be addressed as part of any reserved matters application submitted pursuant to this outline”.Approval has now been granted, in line with the planning officer’s recommendation.
