Bassingbourn Barracks redevelopment project commences soon
The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has appointed the contractor company Kier Graham Defence Ltd to the Bassingbourn Barracks redevelopment project ahead of the relocation of the British Army’s Mission Training and Mobilisation Centre (MTMC).The Bassingbourn project has cost the DIO a sum of £17M and will entail the refurbishment of accommodation blocks, social facilities, offices, classrooms, training areas, medical facilities, and dental facilities, with works scheduled to commence by the end of October and reach their conclusion by the summer of 2021.The MTMC facilities will play a vital role in the training of approximately 12,500 military personnel every year as well as the training of a battlegroup which will be deployed in Afghanistan to carry out Operation Toral. Operation Toral is the British military operation utilises British forces in Afghanistan so that military personnel may teach their Afghan counterparts protection and security techniques.
