Bloor pushes for 1,000 West Berkshire homes
Plans have been submitted for a huge mixed-use development in West Berkshire which outlines up to 1,000 new houses, a care home and commercial and business space. The proposal by Bloor Homes and Sandleford Farm Partnership is for a 281-acre site bounded to the north by Monks Lane and Newbury Rugby Club, with Newbury College located adjacent to the eastern corner. The application seeks to secure planning permission for up to 1,000 new homes, with up to 40 per cent affordable housing of which 80 units constitute a care home.It also seeks to create a local centre with 23,100 sq ft of retail space and 2,100 sq ft earmarked for offices.Bloor Homes has been pushing to build on the Sandleford site in recent years but its efforts have been hit by local opposition. In November 2015, it applied to build 2,000 homes along with two primary schools and 80-bed extra care housing. However, the latest application is designed to kick-start the work on the first 1,000 homes. The application site comprises the entirety of the land controlled and owned by Bloor Homes and Sandleford Farm Partnership. It does not include the full extent of the allocated site and does not include land at New Warren Farm which is in separate ownership.
