Construction company Bowmer + Kirkland’s proposed scheme for a new school in Widnes is expected to be rubber-stamped at a meeting next month.Bowmer is seeking permission for the proposed development of a two-storey special educational needs and disability school (SEND) on land at Naylor Road.A multi-use games area and sports pitches, on-site car parking and a new vehicular access also form part of the application.Historically, the site provided playing fields associated for the former Warrington Road School which closed in the mid-1990s, before being redeveloped for housing. In a report, Halton planning officers have recommended the plans are approved with conditions.Officials said the proposal would provide a new SEND school, needed to “support the educational needs of local children in Halton and St Helens”.Halton Council’s development management committee will discuss the application at a meeting on Monday 9 May.
