Plans by brewery giant BrewDog to create new environmentally-friendly infrastructure at its Ellon headquarters have been approved by Aberdeenshire Council. An application was submitted last year for an anaerobic digestion plant, water treatment plant, Co2 recovery plant and associated energy generation centre to be built at Balmacassie Drive. It is part of a £14 million project which it is hoped will allow the site to become carbon neutral during 2022. The investment will include handling liquid residue from the brewery through efficient low-energy treatment and will also use clean heat.A motion to refuse the plans on the basis that it “added negative effects on the residential properties close to the site and using Broomies Burn is not a suitable way to dispose of the discharge” was rejected and the plans were approved as recommended by officers.
