Brighton student scheme set for approval

Plans to build a mixed-use development in Brighton comprising employment space and hundreds of student bedrooms are set to be approved.Under the scheme put forward by McLaren (Moulescoomb Way) Ltd, existing industrial, community and residential buildings on Moulsecoomb Way would be knocked down.In their place a five to seven-storey structure wold be erected, providing a mix of community and employment space at ground floor level and 373 student bedrooms above.Communal facilities are also planned for the upper floors, along with associated landscaping and public realm improvements.The scheme has been recommended for the nod ahead of a Brighton and Hove City Council planning committee later this week (6 November).Final approval rests on the completion of a section 106 agreement.The heads of terms of the agreement include management plans for the student accommodation, an employment and training academy and contributions towards open space, local employments and public art.
