Plans for a 471-strong student accommodation scheme in Bristol being backed is a “significant decision” for the city, according to a senior figure at Savills.Last month, Host Student Housing won approval for a purpose-built project comprising a trio of buildings arranged around an open courtyard. It will sit on a site on Avon Street, which was formerly occupied by Chanson Foods.Alongside Bristol University’s ongoing £300m development on Temple Island, Host’s student accommodation scheme is expected to be a major boost for the wider regeneration plans for the St Philip’s Marsh area of Bristol.Scheduled for completion by August 2025, it will relieve some of the housing pressure on residential areas in the city.Savills acted as planning consultant, with planning director Geraint Jones saying: “This secures delivery of high-quality student accommodation ideally located for the new Temple Quarter Campus.”It is a significant decision, providing greater certainty regarding the council’s preferred approach to design within the Conservation Area and to flood mitigation within the city.”
