Cala Homes (West) has secured planning consent to create a vibrant new community in Fauldhead, Kirkintilloch, offering 228 private and affordable homes within a development that will enhance local biodiversity.East Dunbartonshire Council recommended the latest proposals for approval at planning committee on Tuesday 29 March, subject to the satisfactory conclusion of Section 75 conditions. The two applications, submitted as the land is held by two owners, detail the delivery of a fully integrated development that meets local housing needs. A total of 228 homes including 160 private homes ranging from one bed cottage flats, three-bedroom terraced and semi-detached homes to four- and five-bedroom villas. The remaining 68 plots will be allocated to deliver much-needed affordable homes which are being developed in partnership with Hillhead Housing Association, a Kirkintilloch based community run housing association.Recognising the benefits of the outdoors to the mental health and wellbeing of local communities, Cala has prioritised green space throughout the site. Cala will establish three new ponds, plant hundreds of new trees and over 4,000sqm of hedgerow planting that complements the character of the surrounding area. These additions will enhance the landscape and support a range of wildlife throughout the community which will also include a natural play area and boast views of the Campsie Fells. The development is ideally located adjacent to the popular Woodilee Village and encourages active travel through a network of new footpaths. This includes providing the missing link between the Woodilee Village South footpath and the Luggie Water footpath, which supports healthy lifestyle choices.
