A masterplan to build a 245-apartment scheme rising up to 12 storeys high in Cardiff city centre has moved forward.Packaged Living has brought forward proposals for Trade Street Gardens in Butetown, which is a short walk from Cardiff Central Station. The development will create a new building of seven to 12 storeys in height, comprising ground floor commercial floorspace, undercroft car and cycle parking and refuse and ancillary servicing areas. The apartments will be a mix of one, two and three bedrooms, with external and internal amenity spaces.Known as Suffolk House, the 0.9 acre site is located within Strategic Site A of the Central Business Area and Central Enterprise Zone of the adopted Cardiff Local Development Plan.Currently it is occupied by an office/industrial premises of two-storey scale. Proposed is the demolition of the existing site structures to make way for the redevelopment.According to its website, Packaged Living said the site will form a gateway into The Embankment masterplan which is a major mixed use regeneration scheme that will open up the city centre to the riverside, south of the railway station.A new landscaped public realm on Trade Street will be created with commercial use at lower levels. A variety of amenity areas including co-working space, lounge areas and landscaped courtyard and roof terraces will be available to residents. The “highly sustainable” development will have reduced energy consumption through a fabric first approach and energy efficient systems. The scheme will be all electric with photovoltaic panels at roof level.Cardiff Council has granted permission for the development under delegated powers, subject to a section 106 agreement
