Cardiff apartment tower set for green light

Revised plans for a 27-storey apartment building in Cardiff have been recommended for approval.Urban Centric (Cardiff) is seeking full planning permission for the demolition of the existing buildings at the Curran Road site in Butetown to pave the way for the construction of a property which would incorporate 188 apartments alongside ancillary areas, parking, ground/first floor commercial space, residents’ gym, and two residents’ roof gardens.The building would have a maximum height of approximately 84 metres, as well as a 13-storey ‘shoulder’ which will accommodate a 14th floor roof garden. A second roof garden would be created on the 26th floor.According to a report by planning officers, the amended proposals are considered to provide a high quality tall building south of Central Station which will act as a landmark feature near the future regeneration of the Brains Brewery site and the wider Dumballs Road area.Being conveniently located close to Central Station and the Transport Interchange, the building will also maximise opportunities for travel by sustainable modes.It is therefore recommended that permission be granted at a meeting later this week subject to the completion of a legal agreement.Permission was granted in August 2019 for a 25-storey scheme.
