Cardiff apartments building edges closer
A former youth hostel site in Cardiff could soon be redeveloped into an apartments building of up to five storeys.Wales & West Housing Association is seeking full planning permission for a three to five-storey building at the site on 2 Wedal Road in Roath.Lined up is a development of 23 affordable apartments at the 1.4-acres site which previously accommodated the Youth Hostel Association Building, demolished in 2018.The scheme has been amended after initially proposing a three to six-storey building containing 27 affordable apartments.All apartments will be one-bed and are to be social rented and managed by the applicant.Cardiff Council’s planning committee will discuss the application on Thursday (14 March).A report for the committee added: “The development would provide much needed affordable housing (with 100 per cent provision secured through legal agreement) in a sustainable location.”A recommendation has been made to grant planning permission.
