Cardiff approves first phase of 7,000-home urban extension
Plans have been approved for 1,600 homes across two sites in Cardiff, 600 of which would form the first phase of a 7,000-home urban extension.City of Cardiff Council on 11 February granted outline planning to Redrow Homes for up to 630 dwellings, a primary school and other facilities close to Llantrisant Road in the north west of the city.This would be the first phase of the 7,000-home Plasdwr urban extension which is also intended to include shops, offices, schools, health centres, leisure centres, pubs and restaurants, according to developer Redrow Homes.The council has also granted outline planning permission to South Wales Land Developments for 1,000 units near Lisvane, to the north of the city, including a primary school, as well as full permission for related infrastructure works.The Lisvane scheme, known as Churchlands, would see an existing farmhouse at Maerdy Farm restored to form part of a new village centre.Overall, about 48 hectares of greenfield land would be developed south of the M4.
