Chemicals manufacturer gets go-ahead for East Yorkshire expansion
Plans from a chemicals manufacturer to expand an East Yorkshire facility have secured approval.Kemira Chemicals UK submitted plans to East Riding of Yorkshire Council earlier this year for its site at New Potter Grange Road in Goole. The company supplies inorganic coagulants to the water industry for purification of drinking water and for waste-water treatment. The plans cover an extension to the facility to increase capacity by introduction of new process vessels and associate pipework infrastructure.Kemira has recently acquired the adjacent site, formerly a builders’ merchant, which it intends to use for materials storage.A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “The proposed expansion at Goole will increase supply capacity at the plant by a further 70KTonne/annum and help secure the availability of this key infrastructure treatment chemical in the UK.”The proposed development will help secure the long-term viability of the Kemira Goole plant and increase employment at the site.”The council has now granted planning permission for the work, subject to conditions, under delegated powers.A planning officer’s report accompanying the decision said the development would “result in the expansion of an existing and established business that has operated from the site for a number of years and provide additional employment within a town”.
