City centre apartment tower block approved
A proposal to turn a car park of a four-star hotel into a major residential and commercial development in the centre of Birmingham have been given the go-ahead.Ace Sino Group has secured permission to construct 228 apartments in a building varying between six and 17 storeys as well as six ground-floor retail units by the Park Regis hotel in Broad Street.Planning officers at Birmingham City Council had recommended the plan was approved, subject to a legal agreement being reached, at a meeting yesterday.The site previously housed the Five Ways Shopping Centre which has been demolished.A total of 117 of the flats will have one bedroom while 105 will have two and six will have three.
