CitySuites sister development set for green light
Proposals for two huge residential schemes in Salford, one of which includes a sister development for the CitySuites luxury serviced apartment scheme, look set to secure the green light.Salford City Council’s planning committee is due to discuss a pair of eye-catching applications at its next meeting on Thursday, 16 November 2017.Up for discussion is a full planning application by Affinity Living subsidiary Embankment West to redevelop a 1.9-acre site currently used for parking which is bounded by the existing CitySuites site, the railway line, Greengate and a railway depot. It is proposed that there would be three apartment blocks with 503 apartments in total across the CallisonRTKL-designed scheme.Block A would be 18 storeys high and contain 147 apartments and Block B would be 16 storeys high and include 209 apartments as well as a ground-floor commercial unit. Block C, meanwhile, would be 18 storeys high and serve as a second CitySuites site, providing a further 147 residential and aparthotel serviced apartments.Included within the accommodation mix would be five three-bedroom ‘Super Suites’ located between the 15th and 18th floors. Occupiers would be able to benefit from a range of amenities including a residents’ lounge, a gym, a library and a swimming pool. This application envisages a lower density scheme to an earlier proposal to create 694 private rented sector apartments across three buildings rising up to 34 storeys high on the same site. The earlier proposal, which would have operated under the Affinity Living brand, secured planning consent last year.At the same meeting, councillors will discuss Forshaw’s full planning application to demolish existing buildings at two sites on Worrall Street off Ordsall Lane that cover a combined area of 1.1 acres. The 232-apartment scheme designed by DLA Architecture involves constructing three buildings ranging from seven to nine storeys high. There would be 107 one-bed apartments, 77 two-bed apartments, 19 two-bed duplex apartments, 28 three-bed apartments and one three-bed duplex apartment.Ahead of the meeting, a report prepared by planning officers has recommended that both applications should be approved.
