College development for Cornwall in Bodmin gets go-ahead
A new further education campus in Cornwall has been given the go-ahead despite concerns by local schools about the future viability of their sixth forms.Cornwall Council’s strategic planning committee has approved plans by Truro and Penwith College to create the facility on the outskirts of Bodmin. The new Callywith College will eventually cater for 1,866 students, with 197 staff employed. The proposal is to build the campus in phases, subject to funding and demand, on a former caravan site which Cornwall Council has already agreed to sell.It will include the creation of four education and training buildings, a floodlit sports pitch, and associated landscaping and car park.Students could enrol for study in September 2017.
