Committee set to back historic venue plans
Plans to bring forward a mixed-use development on the site of a historic venue in Dartford could soon secure approval. The plot comprises the former Two Brewers pub – which has been vacant for several years – and its rear curtilage.Proposed is restoring the historic venue and build a five-storey building behind it.At the ground floor would be a commercial unit, with 11 apartments lined up for the upper levels.A report drawn up ahead of Dartford Borough Council’s development control board meeting on 14 July said: “In conclusion, while the proposed development in the rear curtilage – because of its scale and proximity to the Two Brewers Listed Building – is considered to be harmful to its setting, contribution and significance, and that this should be given serious weight, it will enable the much-needed urgent repair of the listed building.”There is real concern that if repair works are not secured there could be further damage if it remains vacant and unoccupied.”
