Consultation launched for North East garden village
Plans for a new garden village in the North East, which could comprise more than 3,000 homes, have taken a step forward with the launch of a public consultation.The proposed multimillion-pound development by Banks Property and Skerningham Estates could include up to 3,700 houses, with hundreds of affordable homes.Skerningham Garden Village is earmarked for a 1,203-acre site to the north of Darlington.New schools, healthcare facilities, shops, pubs, cafes, businesses, leisure services and amenities are also proposed as part of the major scheme.The online consultation will run until Sunday 19 November.Drop in sessions will also be hosted at the Dolphin Centre on: 1 November 2023 from 9am until 1pm and 2 November 2023 from 12pm until 4pm and at ASDA on Whinbush Way on: 6 November from 1pm until 5pm and 7 November from 9am until 1pm.Neil Westwick, senior director at Lichfields’ Newcastle office, said: “We are pleased to share the comprehensive masterplan with the local community and we look forward to receiving feedback. Skerningham is already well-known to local residents, who have been asking for more details about what the development will include.”The Masterplan provides further detail on what is proposed at the site, the infrastructure that will be provided and the phasing of the development.”
