Contract awarded for £14m leisure centre
The contract for a new £14m Tarka Leisure Centre in Barnstaple, Devon, has been awarded.Speller Metcalfe has been awarded the contract – its second for Parkwood Leisure – and work is due to begin in the summer.The new centre will sit adjacent to Tarka Tennis and replace the existing North Devon Leisure Centre on the Seven Brethren industrial estate.It includes two swimming pools with movable floors, allowing the depth to be adjusted up to 1.8m, and a half indoor, half outdoor ski slope. It is due to be completed by early 2022.There will also be a four-court sports hall, gym, three fitness studios, an indoor soft play, café and reception area.
