Contractor chosen for Sunderland tyre recycling plant
Wastefront has unveiled Technip Energies as its engineering, procurement and construction partner for the build of its £100m tyre recycling plant at the Port of Sunderland.The creation of the facility was unveiled by the Scandinavian company in 2020 and will support up to 100 jobs.Now that a partner has been chosen, the construction phase is planned to begin in Q2 of 2022 and the company will be accompanied by Technip Energies until the plants start-up which is expected in early 2024.Wastefront and Technip Energies have also agreed on a strategic partnership to deploy Wastefront projects worldwide with the Sunderland plant being used as a blueprint for the global replication of a circular model.When fully commissioned, the Sunderland plant – which utilises commercially proven technologies – will have a processing capacity of 80,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres per annum.
