Conversion of landmark building set for approval

Plans for the conversion of a landmark former hospital into apartments together with the construction of a new block of accommodation look set to get the go-ahead.Trippett Street Ltd, supported by Benson Planning Studio, submitted plans to Hull City Council earlier this year for the redevelopment of Victoria House on Park Street.The site incorporates the former Victoria Hospital for sick children, which dates back to the 1890s and is grade II-listed, as well as buildings facing Park Street built in the early 1930s.Planning permission is sought for the conversions of the existing property, most recently used as offices, to create 60 apartments. A new block of between three and five storeys would also be built to provide a further 68 apartments.A mix of studio, one- two- and three-bedroom apartments would be created.The proposal has been revised since its original submission to provide improved landscaping, including the planting of new trees, with parking provision reduced from 88 spaces to 52.The plans will be considered by the council’s Planning Committee on 14 October 2020 with a report prepared for the meeting recommending that approval is granted, subject the signing of a legal agreement.The report noted benefits associated with the proposed development, including the “re-use of a listed building, the provision of housing in a sustainable location on the edge of the city centre”.
