Council backs apartments on site of motorcycle store
Proposals for the creation of more than 140 apartments on the site of a former motorcycle clothing and accessories store in Birmingham have been green lit.Croft Development Consultancy UK Ltd proposed the demolition of the former J & S Motorcycles Store on High Street, Bordesley. It would be replaced by a seven-storey facility providing 136 one- to three-bed apartments.A statement lodged with Birmingham City Council on behalf of the applicant said: “The proposed development will deliver a high-quality residential scheme that is within a sustainable location.”It will provide much-needed housing stock, not only for the benefit of the local community but for the city as a whole.”This scheme will contribute further to the regeneration of this part of the city centre, which has already seen significant investment and change promoting new communities. Its development will also relieve pressure to develop upon greenfield/greenbelt land.”A report drawn up for the planning committee – which met on 22 February – said: “The proposed development would see the delivery of a high-quality residential-led development in a sustainable location on brownfield land. The proposed residential units would make a meaningful contribution towards Birmingham’s housing shortfall and contribute towards the regeneration aspirations for this part of the city centre.”Members voted to support the project, subject to conditions.
