Council backs plans for new Travis Perkins branch
An application proposing the development of a new branch for building materials giant Travis Perkins in Derby has been backed by the council.Travis Perkins sought the go-ahead to create a facility totalling approximately 25,000 sq ft on the site of the former Garrandale Buildings on Alfreton Road.Alfreton Road comprises a mix of commercial and residential development, with some low rise light industrial units, terraced housing and a three-storey office block facing the site. The east half of the planned building will be fitted out as a customer area, while the west half will include racking for the storage of weather sensitive materials. It will be accompanied by 24 car parking spaces.A statement from Derby City Council said: “The proposed builders’ merchant is considered to be acceptable in land use terms.”The development would not significantly increase flood risk and would not have a significant impact on the highway network.”The design and appearance of the proposal is acceptable in this location, which is characterised by industrial and commercial uses.”Proposals have now been approved, subject to conditions.
