Councillors to discuss York Central proposals

The York Central development is set to reach an important milestone with the council’s executive set to discuss the proposals.The scheme aims to create new residential, cultural and business neighbourhoods in the heart of York, transforming an underused area next to York Railway Station.The York Central development, which is expected to create 6,500 jobs and add more than £1bn to the city’s GVA, was unveiled at property expo MIPIM earlier this year.The masterplan for the development proposes up to 2,500 new homes and flexible commercial space, including new Grade A office accommodation. New parking, transport routes and public space are included.A new western entrance to the railway station would also be created, along with a new central gallery for the National Railway Museum, and a new western access road and statement bridge from water end.It is being brought forward by The York Central Partnership, which includes York City Council, Network Rail, Homes England and the National Railway Museum.
