Craigavon set for £30m leisure centre
Plans for a £30m leisure centre in Craigavon have been submitted.Earmarked for the site of the existing Watersports Centre, the complex would comprise a 50-metre main pool, a fun pool, the largest gym in Northern Ireland, an eight-court sports hall, a range of spin and dance studios, an open hub space with a café and soft play area, two squash courts and an outdoor watersports adventure centre.Dubbed the South Lakes Leisure Centre, work is set to complete in the spring of 2020 if the proposals are approved.The facility is the largest project in Armagh City Banbridge & Craigaabon Council’s ambitious capital investment programme, with the hope being that it will “significantly enhance” the area’s leisure offering.Farrans Construction has been commissioned through the Scape Procure National Construction Framework to build the leisure centre, with work expected to start in January 2018.
