A decision will be made next month on plans for for the redevelopment of Leicester City’s King Power Stadium which aim to create a range of facilities and almost 1,700 jobs.Full planning permission is sought for the extension of the stadium’s East Stand to take the overall seating capacity to 40,000, along with works to the North and South stands.Meanwhile, outline permission is sought for a new club retail store, hotel, commercial office space, a residential tower, multi-purpose arena, multi-storey car park, energy centre and food and beverage uses. The club are also proposing to increase the number of concerts and non-football sporting events currently allowed to take place at the site.Leicester City Council has now confirmed that its planning committee will review the proposals at a meeting on 14 September.A statement filed on behalf of the applicant said: “The development will result in significant local benefits in terms of direct and indirect economic, social and environmental regeneration – a council priority for this part of the city.”The ability of the club to contribute to the success and positive image of Leicester will be strengthened. The proposed development will secure leisure and cultural benefits for the city, its residents and visitors contributing positively to the quality of the city as a place to live, work and play.”Those positive contributions align with national, sub-regional and local strategies for economic recovery and strengthening the city’s offer as a tourism and cultural destination.”
