Decision due on Wirral developments

Job-creating proposals to build almost 220 homes and transform a former bank building into a restaurant are both set to go before Wirral’s planning committee next week.The larger of the two applications is Morris Homes’ desire to build 217 dwellings on land at Acre Lane and Meadowside Road.Of this total, three would be one-bed, 12 would be two bed, 77 would be three-bed, 121 would be four-bed and four would be five-bed. Affordable housing at a rate of 20 per cent will be provided.The development would be expected to contribute to the local economy in “numerous ways”, including by providing employment during the construction phase and supporting local businesses as future occupiers access and use those services and facilities.A report to Wirral Council noted that the proposal is “acceptable and supports urban regeneration by making full and effective use of land within an urban area”.Approval is therefore recommended.Also set to be considered is an application to transform a former Lloyds TSB bank on Old Chester Road into a restaurant and bar.The vacant venue is set within a parade of shops, with the area containing a mixture of uses including restaurants and takeaways, as well as shops and offices.A report to planners stated that despite being within 40 metres of residential properties, in this case the proposal “would not materially harm the living conditions of nearby residents with particular regard to noise and disturbance”.Approval has been recommended, with the authority set to meet on 19 July.
