Details revealed of 425-apartments scheme

Updated details have been revealed of a scheme to build more than 400 apartments at the site of a former university building in Preston.Work to build the 425 studio apartments at the site which housed the University of Central Lancashire Sizer House building, in Preston, has started after planning permission was granted in 2018.However, applicant Pillars Sizer is now seeking a variation of condition for that planning permission. The submission states that the applicant wishes to make the accommodation available to a wider range of occupants to include apprentices and key workers.The proposal is to modify the condition so the occupancy of the approved development is not restricted to students only.Proposals state accommodation will be erected in four to six storeys at the site. Communal facilities including a gym, prayer room, lounges and study spaces form the scheme. A roof terrace and a library and ground floor commercial space to provide two units for the sale of food and drink are also part of the project. A pub/wine bar is also in the plan.Planning officers have recommended the application to vary the conditions of the planning permission is approved subject to a Section 106 obligation being secured.Preston City Council’s planning committee will meet on Thursday 5 August to discuss the application.
