Enzygo submits plans for Worksop plastic recycling plant – letsrecycle

Environment consultancy, Enzygo, submitted the plans for the site on Shireoaks Road, having said that there is an “urgent need” for recycling plants to meet demand.It would be built on an area of the A57, next to an existing HWRC. The new site would include a material recovery facility, handling “up to 75,000 tonnes of waste” per year.The facility would accept contaminated or complex plastic which have been rejected as impossible to recycle by other facilities. The application says this will “divert plastic from landfills, get them back into the economy and ease pressure on other recycling facilities”.Rubbish which isn’t suitable for recycling would be sent to an on-site energy recovery facility.The fire in February 2014 was said to have taken nine days to put out, and reportedly, there are “mounds” of leftover waste on the site, which has been sold to a new operator working with the council. The waste will be put directly into the on-site energy recovery facility if the application is approved.A Nottinghamshire county council spokesperson told letsrecycle.com: “Nottinghamshire county council, as the waste planning authority for the county, is in receipt of a planning application for a new waste management facility at Shireoaks Road, Worksop.“This is a detailed application supported by an environmental impact assessment which will be carefully assessed by the council. The application is now open for consultation and all comments received will be taken into account as part of the decision-making process.”
