A new electric vehicle (EV) charging facility and retail unit has been proposed for the site of a former pub in Leeds.BP Pulse has submitted a full planning application to Leeds City Council for development on the s former White Bear pub site in Tingley.Planning permission is sought for the construction of an electric vehicle charging facility and retail unit (Use Class E), as well as associated access, parking, servicing and landscaping areas. The proposed development would comprise 18 covered ultra-fast charging bays, including a dedicated bay for disabled users, together with a car cleaning facility, parcel collection point, 13 standard parking spaces (including two accessible spaces), and a cycle stand for four bicycles. The charging hub would be operated by BP Pulse. The retail unit would measure about 3,700 sq ft and would provide a small range of convenience goods, as well as a Wild Bean café.It has been estimated that the proposed development could support 175 direct and indirect FTE (full-time equivalent) jobs during the construction phase, and generate £8.4m of GVA (gross value added) for the region’s economy.Once operational, the scheme could support 30 FTE jobs (direct and indirect) and generate additional GVA of up to £1m per year.A planning statement prepared by Lichfields as part of the application said: “The scheme would form part of BP’s roll-out of new EV charging infrastructure at a national level and would represent a flagship facility of this nature within the Yorkshire region.”
