Everton reveal Goodison Park redevelopment plans

Everton Football Club has outlined plans for a mixed-use development on the site of the club’s current stadium, Goodison Park.The plans, which will be reviewed by Liverpool City Council, propose building a new health centre, an expansion of Everton Free School (run by the club), up to 173 houses and apartments, almost 5,000 square metres of office space and care facilities for elderly and disabled people. The exact make-up of the scheme will be refined in the coming months by the club in collaboration with the local community, ahead of submitting final plans.The redevelopment comes as the club pushes ahead with the construction of a new 52,000-seat stadium, which will see Everton move westward, from Goodison Park in north Liverpool, to the docks by the river MerseyWork will begin on the redevelopment, called the Goodison Park Legacy Project, once the club has relocated to its new stadium, which it hopes to do in time for the 2023/24 season. Laing O’Rourke secured a pre-construction services agreement (PCSA) in February for a design-and-build contract to deliver the new stadium. Decisions from the council on plans for the Goodison Park redevelopment and the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock will both be made during this summer.An Everton spokesman said that initial work on the new stadium is on track to begin in September this year. If construction happens on schedule, demolition of Goodison Park will begin in August 2023, ahead of a phased build for the new legacy project development. The club has said that the new stadium, combined with the legacy development plans, will create around 12,000 construction jobs and contribute an additional £1bn to the city region’s economy.
