Plans to transform one of Hampshire’s biggest industrial sites by building 1,500 homes and a luxury marina go on show to the public.Fawley Waterside, owners of the former Fawley Power Station, is staging the first in a series of public exhibitions prior to submitting a planning application next year.Last night it emerged that the multi-million-pound scheme, expected to create about 2,000 jobs, also includes a hotel, health facilities and a school.Fawley Waterside, which bought the 300-acre site in 2015, wants to redevelop the area by building what will effectively be a small town overlooking Southampton Water. The consortium is planning to retain the power station’s 650ft chimney and convert the top of the structure into a high-rise restaurant. The glass-sided eatery would outshine Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower, which is almost 100ft shorter. The spokesman said the consortium aimed to build 1,500 homes ranging from small flats to family houses, plus a healthcare centre and school. He added that other proposals included shops, waterfront restaurants and a hotel.People visiting the Calshot Activities Centre exhibition from 2pm to 8pm will also have a chance to comment on plans to provide better links to communities, including a new footpath between Calshot and Fawley.Extensive landscaping is also planned, together with a lagoon that will provide a habitat for birds. The power station closed in 2013 and has since been used as a filming location for Holywood blockbusters, including the new Star Wars movie.
