Extensive industrial scheme given go-ahead

The go-ahead has been given to plans to build three new facilities at the Department for Infrastructure’s roads depot site, which includes the development of a new laboratory.Situated on The Carn Industrial Estate in Craigavon, the depot is currently home to the branch office, garage and various storage buildings, with the three new facilities set to be additions to the current layout.Facility A is a laboratory, which will be used for research and development, testing road surface materials, as well as the storage of bitumen/aggregate/concrete samples and testing equipment. It will contain office space for staff working in the labs.The proposal for facility B includes new welfare facilities for operations and maintenance staff, including staff showers, toilets, changing facilities, canteen and changing room.Facility C is a bitumen spray bar testing building, providing a safe testing environment for road maintenance vehicles.The proposed total development area, including demolitions and external works, is approximately 37,000 sq ft. The Carn Industrial Estate site was established in 1985 and is located north of Craigavon, with Carn Business Park to the east.
