Extreme sports plan revealed for Circuit of Wales
Plans have been revealed to develop extreme sports, leisure and entertainment facilities at the proposed £425m Circuit of Wales site near Ebbw Vale.The Extreme Sports Company and Circuit of Wales have unveiled plans for indoor and outdoor action and adventure sports, leisure facilities, a variety of food and beverage offerings alongside retail outlets and themed accommodation.Among the proposed facilities are mountain bike trails, a BMX bike park, indoor skiing, trampolining, a skatepark, virtual reality zone, surf park, live music stages, as well as two new hotels and a campsite.The companies said the proposed facility will tap into the UK entertainment and leisure sector, “delivering significant revenues and attracting visitors from beyond the traditional motorsport world”.It is also expected to broaden The Circuit of Wales’ visitor base via The Extreme Sports Channel and support the South Wales Valleys Region Task Force target of creating 10,000 jobs.Supporters of Circuit of Wales say the wider facility could attract 750,000 visitors a year and inject an estimated £50m into the Welsh economy per year.
