Final go-ahead for new council house scheme in Winchester
Final approval has been given for a new council housing in a Winchester suburb.City councillors have given the go-ahead for a contract to build 13 homes on open space at Hillier Way, Abbotts Barton. The scheme consist of four one-bed flats, six two-bed houses and three three-bed houses.A report to Cabinet (housing) committee said public consultation had revealed concern at the loss of the grassy space but that the design and layout was well-received.Planning permission was given last month and building should start in June and take 46 weeks. Some £100,000 will be set aside to mitigate the loss of open space. The council will consult local people on how this money should be spent.The council has a policy to build 300 council homes over ten years.
