First details of ski village redevelopment revealed

The first details have been revealed on plans for the redevelopment of Sheffield’s former ski village. The £22.5m project is set to create a new sports, leisure and entertainment destination, generating about 100 jobs.In November 2017, Sheffield City Council appointed a consortium led by adventure sports and TV station EXTREME Destinations as the preferred developer for the 48-acre site at Parkwood, following a competitive bidding process.About 100 full-time jobs are expected to initially be created as part of the £22.5m development, Sheffield’s ski slopes reinstated in phase one of the project.It is hoped that the development will comprise a combination of action and adventure sports facilities, including the possibility of an indoor sky diving facility live music, E-Gaming and Virtual reality hub as well as a restaurants, bars, social spaces, retail and themed accommodation.The first details of the plans were revealed by the team at a business briefing in Sheffield yesterday. A site plan and images have also been released.EXTREME is set to reveal further plans for the site later in the year while the council will also release its masterplan for the wider Parkwood Springs area, which includes Wardsend Cemetery and the former Viridor site.
