Flight training facility plans set for lift-off
Plans for the creation of a flight training facility at a vacant warehouse property in the heart of Manor Royal Business District in Crawley have moved forward after a planning application was recommended for approval.CAE Training and Services UK, which currently occupies a smaller unit in Manor Royal, is seeking permission to change the use of Diamond Point, a detached warehouse fronting Fleming Way, and the addition of a 51,500 sq ft mezzanine for classrooms, briefing space and toilets.Seventeen full height flight simulators and one fixed base simulator would be accommodated on the ground floor of the building along with associated training areas, canteen and offices. The training facility, which would support an additional 36 jobs in Manor Royal, is located close to Gatwick Airport.According to a report set to be scrutinised next week by Crawley Borough Council’s planning committee, it is considered that the proposed use is complementary to the main employment function of the Manor Royal district, which supports the business needs of Gatwick Airport. The application is recommended for approval, subject to conditions.CAE London Gatwick is part of the Canada-headquartered CAE, a global provider of training for the civil aviation, defence and security, and healthcare markets.
