The application to Sefton Council seeks approval for the creation of 67 new affordable homes and 91 extra care apartments. The homes will comprise of 30 two-bed and 25 three-bed family homes, along with 12 apartments. The extra care apartments will be a mix of one and two bedrooms and include communal facilities, with the scheme also comprises of hard and soft landscaping.Up until 2012 the site was in use as a bus depot for Arriva, however owing to management difficulties the depot was closed. The depot was eventually demolished in 2018/2019 and the site subsequently cleared. Several proposals for the site have been developed over the past 15 years, and a number of planning approvals granted for residential schemes. This included most recently a scheme for Backhouse Group for a development of housing and a supermarket to the south of the site. However, owing to viability issues no project has been delivered.
