Former hotel transformation set to be approved

An application proposing the transformation of a listed former hotel in Derbyshire to provide new homes could soon be approved.AH2 Buxton has brought forward plans to convert the grade II-listed former Grove Hotel, which is located within the Buxton Central Conservation Area.The four-storey building, constructed between 1770 and 1802, occupies a prominent corner positioning to the east side of Terrace Road.The proposal is for the conversion and extension of the Grove Hotel to provide 17 apartments one- and two-bedroom apartments with storage on the ground floor.Plans are to be considered by High Peak Borough Council’s planning committee on 22 May.A report for the committee said: “The proposal would provide for a small-scale housing scheme within a prominent town centre location and reuse a vacant grade II building with its associated economic, social and environmental benefits.”In turn, the listed building would be conserved in a manner appropriate to its significance and provide a viable use broadly consistent with its conservation to overcome less then substantial in relation to the removal of historical staircases.”
