A former mattress warehouse in Tameside could soon be transformed into supported living apartments after a recommendation was made to grant planning permission for the scheme.Infinity Property Investing Ltd is bidding to change the use of the building on 61 Stockport Road, Ashton, from storage and distribution to 43 units. The industrial building was last used as a mattress warehouse. It is believed to have been vacant for more than nine years. The proposed scheme will provide specialist supported living apartments comprising 41 one-bedroom apartments and two two-bed apartments.Plans show that staff facilities, including a staff office and store area, would be provided.A Tameside Council report said the development will enable residents to live independently, where they would perhaps not be able to otherwise. A dedicated staff team will be available on site, to assist residents where required. The report said the model is intended to assist residents in finding employment or education, or establish roots within the community with the intention that they would eventually move into the private rented sector in future.A recommendation has been made in the report to grant planning permission subject to conditions.
