Fresh Approval for 51-storey Apartment Tower

Fresh approval has been granted for a 51-storey tower to be constructed in the centre of Birmingham. The £160m project is set to be the city’s tallest residential building.The application, which also includes a 15/16-storey tower, involves the creation of 667 new apartments.Court Collaboration, which is based in the city, is behind the One Eastside scheme which will be located close to the new HS2 station on Curzon Street.Birmingham City Council’s planning committee first voted to approve the proposals at a meeting on 5 December 2019 and 23 April 2020. However, the decision was quashed on a procedural omission of not referencing the Victorian Society’s objection.The application came back in front of the committee, during a remotely held meeting on Thursday 15 April 2021. Councillors approved the scheme following a vote.Objections/concerns have been fully appraised and considered alongside the development plan policy and other material considerations with the developments impact on heritage, sunlight/daylight/overshadowing and wider infrastructure provision by virtue of reduced S106 contributions recognised.
