Further details on new Dyson facility revealed
Plans for Dyson’s new research and development facility on a former Ministry of Defence (MoD) site in Wiltshire have moved forward with an application submitted to the council revealing more details on the first element of the project. The company has now lodged an application for hangars 85 & 86 at Hullavington Airfield, which was validated by Wiltshire Council on 13 March 2017.It follows billionaire inventor Sir James Dyson’s announcement of the proposed 517-acre research and development centre earlier this year. The new facility will be located close to Dyson’s existing Malmesbury headquarters. It forms part of the company’s plans to invest £2.5bn into future technologies and the doubling of its workforce to about 7,000 over the next six years. The application proposes the use of the hangars for research and development use, external alterations, the creation of a temporary car park with 350 spaces and associated works. An energy centre will also be developed along the north-western boundary of the site. The proposals cover a small part of the wider airfield and Dyson intends to bring forward its masterplan at a later date. The site is set to become a global hub for its research and development activities. In planning documents submitted as part of the application, Dyson said the first application had been lodged as the two buildings are required following growth at its headquarters.
