Galliford Try starts on Chertsey scheme
Galliford Try has started work on a new mental health inpatient unit for Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, located on the St Peter’s Hospital campus in Chertsey.The £35m Northwest Hospital scheme – procured through the Southern Construction Framework – will see a new hospital built on the site of the former Abraham Cowley Unit.The works include the demolition of the existing buildings to be replaced by a modern mental health inpatient unit, which will feature 64 bedrooms with en-suite facilities.Also lined up are communal areas, assisted bathrooms and associated support rooms, as well as therapeutic gardens and external courtyard spaces.Gavin Bridge, managing director of Galliford Try Building Southern, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to this fantastic new scheme and look forward to working with Surrey and Borders, Southern Construction Framework and all the stakeholders involved to create a much-needed high-quality facility for the region.”Laura Hodgetts, health director for Galliford Try, added: “We have a growing portfolio of high-quality mental health facilities around the country, and this new hospital will only add to that track record.”By applying the learning from all our mental health schemes, we can ensure that it meets the needs of services users and clinical staff and becomes another beacon for best practice in the sector.”
