Gatwick plans further £1bn investment programme
Gatwick has announced plans to invest a further £1.15bn in its facilities over the next five years, with £240m to be invested during 2017/18.The airport revealed plans to enhance passenger experience and boost infrastructure including a new hangar in partnership with Boeing, extensions to Pier 6 and a new domestic arrivals terminal.Work on the pier service will start in 2017/18 and complete in spring 2022 at a cost of £150m, according to Gatwick’s major development projects overview.The overview also noted that the new hangar scheme was being brought forward due to demand from Boeing.A total of £10m will be spent on providing space to charge electric vehicles, £28m in power resilience measures to stabilise power services, and £18.3m on automated boarding gates.Car park decking work worth £41.4m is due to begin this autumn and complete in spring 2018, while a £30m refurbishment of Pier 4’s gaterooms will begin in 2020 and complete in 2023/24.The airport has also planned a £66m main runway resurfacing project will begin this summer and last until 2022.Details of improvements to the airport’s train station are still to be confirmed; however, Gatwick has allocated £31.2m to the project.
