Go-ahead for controversial 51-home scheme
Controversial proposals to build 51 homes on green space in south Liverpool have been given the go-ahead.Redrow Homes’ full planning application to redevelop 12.9 acres of land fronting onto Harthill Road on the edge of Calderstones Park has been approved by Liverpool City Council’s planning committee following a site visit.The application was submitted as part of the Strategic Housing Delivery Partnership, a joint venture between the local authority, Redrow and Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH).The plot currently features a vacant nursing home, private disabled riding stables and paddocks, a children’s special educational needs facility, a park depot and a miniature railway.The scheme involves creating 39 houses and 12 apartments in total. It has attracted hundreds of objections, including from the Friends of Harthill and Calderstones Park, Calderstone School, local councillors and residents.
