Go-ahead for more than 600 York homes

More than 600 homes are set to be built on a former gasworks site in York after planning consent was granted.York-based developer North Star secured permission for the redevelopment of a nine-acre brownfield site at Heworth Green from City of York Council at a Planning Committee meeting last week (12 March 2020).A total of 607 new homes, including about 400 build-to-rent (BTR) units will be constructed on the site on Heworth Green, at the edge of the city centre. The development will also include a neighbourhood park and a community hub.Work on remediating the site will start shortly, following the earlier approval of the removal of gas infrastructure works. York-based Social Vision will run the community hub on the site, which will also be available for local groups and charities to use, as well as being designed to be dementia friendly.
