The go-ahead has been secured for the development of almost 50 affordable apartments and new commercial space in Cardiff.Linc Cymru has received the seal of approval to redevelop land at 48 to 54 City Road to provide 48 new apartments across two buildings. The proposals involve the provision of a new seven-storey building alongside a four-storey building fronting Vere Street, containing 48 new residential properties and two commercial units. All of the units will be one-bed, with 27 for one person and 21 for two people.A flexible permission has been sought for the commercial floorspace of A1, A2, B1, D1 or D2 use.The site was previously home to the former Riley’s Snooker Club and includes a small area of land used for car parking that fronts Vere Street.Riley’s Snooker Club is believed to have operated from the 1980’s and had ceased trading by 2014 when the premises became vacant. It was occupied briefly as a furniture discount warehouse up until April 2016 when a fire resulted in the site becoming derelict. The fire damaged building was fully demolished due to safety concerns in 2018.
