A major developer’s proposals to create almost 130 new homes on an industrial and residential site in Leicestershire look set to receive the go-ahead. The scheme aims to create a “locally distinguishable and sustainable addition” to the area.Bloor Homes is seeking permission for a development on a 28.3-acre site on the northern settlement edge of Syston and to the west of the village of Queniborough. The existing site is occupied by large industrial units with associated hard standing and infrastructure. The buildings are currently vacant but were formerly used by Shield Engineering. It also contains two private dwellings, including 1444 Melton Road and Queniborough Lodge.Lined up is the creation of 127 new homes.Queniborough Lodge would be retained and renovated to provide a single three-bedroom home. The associated outbuildings are to be converted into seven properties.A statement lodged on behalf of the applicant with Charnwood Borough Council – whose planning committee meets on 20 June – said: “The site provides an opportunity to create a new living environment of the highest standard, which reflects the local vernacular and contextual surroundings.”The proposals will deliver an attractive, locally distinguishable and sustainable addition to Syston.”A report for the committee added: “In conclusion, it is considered that there are no impacts of the development of this site that cannot be mitigated and that would be so significant and demonstrably harmful as to outweigh the benefits of providing the regeneration of a brownfield site for the provision of housing in this sustainable location.”Members have been recommended to approve the project, subject to conditions.
