Revised plans for the construction of a series of apartment blocks aiming to provide hundreds of homes on land at a Birmingham business park have been recommended for approval.Rochda Ltd has brought forward outline proposals to develop approximately seven acres of land at Western Business Park, Great Western Close. The site was formerly used as a railway yard but now comprises overgrown grassland.Plans involve the construction of seven residential blocks of between five and nine storeys, creating 451 one- to three-bed apartments.A total of 151 on-site car parking spaces would be provided, along with cycle parking in each of the buildings. The scheme is a revised proposal from a previously approved application for 310 residential units.A statement filed with Birmingham City Council on behalf of the applicant said: “The proposed development will contribute towards the housing needs of Birmingham whilst also providing key services and amenities on site through the proposed commercial units.”Moreover, the development proposal will also bring back into use a previously developed site that is currently under-used and a site for fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.”Birmingham City Council’s planning committee will consider the scheme on 13 June.A report for the committee said: “The application proposal would see the development of a vacant brownfield site, at a high density, in order to provide a sustainable form of residential development.”The development would see the erection of 451 new homes, which would suit a range of future occupiers.”The development is further seen to rationalise the site area and provide a good range of on-site private and public amenity space, with numerous public improvements, including a children’s play area.”Members have been recommended to approve the scheme, subject to conditions.
